Colin Tizzard boosted by Cheltenham Gold hope Cue Card

Trainer Colin Tizzard has hinted that Cue Card will probably be played for speed in next month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup after the gelding fell three fences out in last season’s race when going well alongside eventual winner Don Cossack.

Tizzard, who admitted Tuesday’s tendon injury to his Gold Cup ante-post favourite Thistlecrack had ‘hit him for six’ has drawn encouragement from Cue Card’s easy win over two and a half miles at Ascot last Saturday.

The Paddy Brennan-ridden 11-year-old is second favourite for the Gold Cup behind Hennessy Gold Cup and Welsh National winning stablemate Native River.
