PERU – The city of Peru is set to purchase around 41 acres of land along the Wabash River that officials hope to use to expand the city’s trail system and potentially open up for business development.
Peru Mayor Gabe Greer said the city plans to spend $250,000 to buy the property, which is owned by the railroad company CSX and formerly served as a train yard. The land is located between West City Park and River Walkway Park along Canal Street.
Greer said the city has wanted the property for decades, and was finally able to purchase it after negotiating an agreeable price with CSX.
